Doctor Carson Beckett, the Chief Medical Doctor for the Atlantis Expedition with a lovable witty sense of humour. Along with having the Ancient Gene, Beckett is a valuable member of the Atlantis expedition, and has proved his worth many times.

However, having the ability to activate the Ancient technology has landed him in trouble many times, overcoming them each time. Afraid of wormhole travel and the superior Ancient technology, he prefers to stick to his Medical Lab.

Paul McGillion was born in Paisley, Scotland. The sixth of seven children. Paul has worked extensively in film, TV and theatre for the past 15 years. Recent projects include a regular role on the new series Stargate: Atlantis playing Dr. Carson Beckett. Paul just wrapped work on the feature film "The Deal" playing Christian Slater's best friend Richard Kester.

Other feature film credits include "A Guy Thing" with Julia Stiles and Jason Lee, "A Cooler Climate" with Sally Field, the upcoming feature "Jack" where McGillion plays opposite Stockard Channing and Ron Silver, and "See Grace Fly" for which Paul was nominated for the 2004 Leo Award Best Lead Male for his heart wrenching performance as Dominic McKinley.

As well as starring in Atlantis, he has also had a guest appearance, in Stargate SG-1 as the young Ernest Littlefield in the episode The Torment of Tantalus.

Theatre credits include leading roles in productions such as "The Foreigners", "Piano", "Savage in Limbo", "El Salvador", and the Jessie nominated "Reservations for Two" which McGillion also produced and directed to rave reviews.
