The Captain of the Aurora was a man on a mission to find a way to defeat the Wraith, which he managed to do, however, he was unable to get the Aurora back to Atlantis due to their slow speeds of travel.
They put themselves in stasis, where they spent over 10,000 years before the Atlantis expedition found the Aurora. When a Wraith infiltrated the Aurora, it made the Captain and its crew forget that they are in a simulation, and instead believed the virtual environment to be the real world.
With the help of John Sheppard and Rodney McKay, the Captain realised the truth and was able to give John the self-destruct codes with which Sheppard managed to destroy the Aurora and two Wraith ships which were en route.
