The creature of P2X-338 is a deadly one that eats humans. It was put into a sarcophagus along with the Goa'uld Marduk by his priests as a punishment for his crimes against his people. The creature was meant to feed on Marduk, whilst the Sarcophagus tried to heal it, eventually killing Marduk, but slowly.
However, the Goa'uld symbiote jumped from his host and went into the creature keeping him alive.
