The Latonans have long believed that their planet is protected by the Sentinel. The Sentinel is capable of protecting the planet, however, during a NID mission to the planet the Sentinel was broken and when a Goa'uld came to the planet, the Sentinel didn't work. Under fire, and cut-off from the gate, SG1 were sent along with two NID agents, who broke the machine to fix it and to help SG9. The Latonans, although very technologically advanced, they no longer have the knowledge of how the technology was created. However, they do know how to use the technology, they believe that as long as it works there's no problem.
