The Altairans were once a great civilisation, however the surface of their planet became contaminated, and they moved underground. The Altairans transferred their consciousness into Android bodies, and now live forever in their android states, however, they require a power source which is located only on their planet. Many Altairans got bored and left through the Stargate, using a smaller version of the power source, and some went onto the surface and wondered away until they were out of the range of the power source, leaving only one Altairan on the planet. Soon after, SG-1 came through, and in hopes of having company at last, he created androids of them as well.
